Network Diagnostic

Collective Mind’s proprietary network diagnostic framework serves as the foundation for how we think about networks and that is integrated into all of our work. Our network diagnostic framework defines three core components of networks:

  • Network capacities: a set of competencies and attributes required to help the network achieve its mission

  • Network functions: activities through which a network seeks to capture the combined value that lies within the network and, ideally, creates value that is more than the sum of those combined parts by linking, connecting, synergizing, and integrating collective action across the network and perhaps beyond

  • Organizational functions: core operational activities that underpin network functions, structures, and processes

Our Network Diagnostic provides an in-depth, nuanced understanding of a network’s strengths and challenges as well as targeted recommendations for network development and capacity building. Whereas the Network Capacity Assessment focuses on network capacities, the Network Diagnostic analyzes a network across all three core areas of networks, deepening and broadening your understanding of the network and highlighting specific as well as cross-cutting areas for improvement.

The diagnostic process:

The full Network Diagnostic starts with the Network Capacity Assessment which evaluates your network’s core capacities and pain-points through a survey mechanism. The diagnostic process complements the assessment data and analysis with further methods to expand, deepen, triangulate, and validate those findings including a review of your network’s core documents and interviews with key network stakeholders.

Who should undertake a diagnostic?

As with the Network Capacity Assessment, the diagnostic is designed for emerging, established, and evolving networks to support their strategies and network development.

The specific process for the Network Diagnostic is determined in collaboration with the network.
